Shortest stint working at a company
Apart from internships, what is the first real job you've had (such as in PE or IB) that you stayed the shortest at? Curious if anyone has spent 6 months at a firm and then moved elsewhere.

I started in July, people started leaving in September at my bank. I stayed 6 months.
Jesus. Was this for first year analyst?
Yeah. The guy in September went to consulting. The rest stayed in banking and made big upgrades.
Was it a decent bank?
It’s not a BB, EB, or a top MM but it’s a decent global shop and better than nothing. Not going to say the name but everyone here has heard of it.
Know analysts at my previous bank that worked for 10 weeks and got crushed so bad that they left
What about at the mid or senior level?
8 months, BLK/Vanguard/Fidelity
A guy at our bank quit after 2 weeks...
My friend quit before graduating
I've seen 1yr at PE firm
Worked in Real Estate for about six months in my first role out of school. I realized two weeks after starting that I still preferred IB, so worked the next few months to lateral (and was fortunate to break in when I did).
Have seen numerous individuals bounce after a month at my bank. Usually what happens is the investment bank will say to the individual, “how do you think it’s going” and lead them to resigning without firing them. As a result, the individual doesn’t put the experience on their resume and both parties act like the hire never happened. Honestly, people set forward all sorts of rules about staying a year or 2 years etc. when really there are no rules. Every time you look for a job you are selling yourself and you need to find a way to spin your experience so people think it’s rational.
Why did the person resign willfully? And what did the bank say to make him resign?
This thing is common—the person resigns because it’s clear to them they aren’t a great fit for the firm/ role. It’s much easier to resign and not put it on your resume/ have a gap of a month on your resume than having a 4 month role you got fired from.
they usually just have a person lead that person down that path.
“How do you think things are going?”
”having trouble adjusting, seems like I’m not gelling with the team.”
”yeah, do you think this is a common thing in the org? Or do you think it might just be something with the culture here that makes it difficult? Candidly, feedback right now is you are a bottom performer, pretty much across the board. Maybe it’s just not a great fit?”
Personally saw a guy on our capital markets floor who was a first year have a nervous breakdown after a month on the desk. The guy had a legit panic attack and had to be carried out by EMTs. That was the last we saw of him. It's still a bit of a mystery as to what the hell actually happened to him but apparently he's fine and working an FP&A job at some insurance company.
Currently considering making a move after about 9 months. The position isn't at all what it was portrayed to be and neither is the firm, despite my best efforts at DD-ing that before joining.
Damn. This is at the principal level?
Tell me more pls
I started at an EB out of undergrad, did a year, then left to a different EB during COVID. I only stayed there for 4 months before returning to the bank I originally started at. Have been back now for just over a year.
