Should I go PE just so I have the option?

Currently a second year analyst thinking about next steps. I feel investing would be fairly interesting to me and would like to do that once I have capital, however I am getting the feeling that being an operator would align much more with my skill set and mind than PE at the moment.

Correct me if I am wrong, but PE seems much more systematic than it used to be and a little saturated. I'm looking for a role where I can use my creativity and really become passionate about particular industries. In my experience, most of the sponsors I have worked with barley know how to run the business they just bought and barley care. Seems much more soulless. However, at the same time it will give me connections allow me to have capital to lean on if I want to become and operator thereafter.

I want to take a big risk at some point in my life before I settle down in the form of a startup or just running a company in general. Should I avoid PE altogether if I want to do this ultimately and just go for that now? Should I go into consulting to learn more about operating companies first?

I really want to make a lot of money, but I also dont want to hate my life. I feel like I could do a lot better for myself and be a lot more passionate if I take the shortest path to running something of my own. But I feel like if I dont do PE now, it wont be easy if I change my mind. Wondering anyone's thoughts.

Thanks in advance.
