Should I lateral groups internally?

Im a third year analyst in TMT at DB/CS/JEF based on west coast. I ultimately want to work in software growth equity in NYC. One of the NYC TMT people threw around the idea of me joining their team after a deal we were on. Would it be advantageous for me to lateral to NYC while I recruit? I’ve interned in NYC before and love it so would gladly live there while on hunt for buyside role. However the lateral might complicate things, especially if I line up a buyside role starting this summer.

CS doesn't exist as a firm anymore nor is/was it the same tier as DB/JEF. Regardless, SF is a huge hub for GE, so no real reason to switch unless you hate SF.
