Should I transfer?

Im a sophomore who goes to a no-name state school in the northeast and have the stats to transfer to Columbia or Cornell for computer science. I enjoy CS but i want to work in tech investing in the future either in PE or VC i really like both. I qualify as diversity and have a couple interviews for IB firms for sophomore diversity programs. My question is should I transfer or stick at my state school and try to break in from here?

I would transfer if you got into Cornell or Columbia - but you will likely have to take another semester or even another year, a lot of your credits probably won't transfer. Definitely would not transfer for BU, Northeastern, or Howard.

If you want to do tech you should look at California schools - most of the VC scene is out there and a good chunk of the tech PE scene as well. Will be a lot easier to get tech or tech investing internships to help you down the road if you're out west. UCLA/USC/Berkley are all very solid options

a lot of my credits are gen-ed so far like all the english classes and language requirements. I have 4 math classes (Calc1-3) and Discrete math which is the only class i’m not sure about would transfer. I wouldn’t mind an extra year anyways i’d still graduate at 22. I’m curious abt why not BU or NE they place decently from what i’ve seen on linkedin into IB?

They place fine but they are still non targets, maybe low semi-targets at best. If you are a top student at your no-name school and network heavily you will have every shot at IB, especially with diversity you will be fine.

Transferring is a massive hassle (socially, credits, writing new applications) and I would only do it if you get a huge boost from a name-brand school. PE/VC does care about school name, it's not insurmountable but I would not transfer from non target to non target
