Think they became a family office after poor fundraising. Tons of spin outs because of that
FWIW have heard that the decision to pivot to a family office structure was more of a conscious decision that the founders made (looks like fundraising performance was always choppy?), so they have been supportive of ppl that want to leave to pursue more traditional PE roles and are investors in many of the spinout funds.
