Switching Jobs after On-Cycle Offer?

I’m a second year analyst that accepted an on-cycle PE offer for Summer 2024. I was planning on staying a third year, but increasingly want to try something different (either a different industry group or even consulting) before heading to PE. Is it OK to lateral / switch banks while holding a PE offer? Is there any precedent for this

From the PE firms perspective, probably not since you’ll have completed 2 years in banking at that point. You could always ask if they have needs for you to start in the ‘23 class or work at a portco if you feel like that 3rd year of banking is a waste of time.

The bigger question is what kind of place would hire you for only a year knowing you have a job lined up already? Maybe I’m wrong, but probably not any serious place. Maybe go to DC?

Hey I’m in the same boat. Could you DM? Have been asking mentors and have a few options in mind / from people I’ve spoke to, but would love to discuss this w someone else in the same shoes
