Thoughts on Novacap?
Curious as to reputation / thoughts / pay / culture at Novacap? Looks like they recently raised a 1.8B TMT fund and now manage about 6B CAD. Appreciate it!

Very French

Good firm. Good people. Note that they have separate TMT, Industrial and Financial Services funds (and internal deal teams are aligned).
.
Heard they pay very low. Less than IB for sure.
It's a sweat shop that pays very low, long hours and noone appreciates your efforts. Seniors are really smart people, but not so much for juniors. Most of them are there because of connections, not because of how good they are. Culture is really bad, unless you are french Canadian, I wouldn't suggest working there.
Although, to be fair, it’s a great learning experience for someone looking for deal exposure. Deal flow is huge (2-3 CIMs per week, 1-2 LOIs per month, 5-10 acquisitions per year), and when you get staffed on a deal, you are on the deal team from start to finish. Deal teams usually comprises of a partner, a VP, an associate, an analyst and an intern, so you get a ton of exposure to the due diligence process at any level. Not a lot of shops do what they do in Canada, so it is a unique experience of some sorts. Too bad the culture sucks there.
Source? Is this the whole firm or a specific vertical?
So after the firm writes recommendation letters for you, for one, you dont thank them for it and then two you shit on them online. Anyways I hope the pacmans are helping you at Scotia
.
Interesting
am I missing something or is that actually pretty high... big 5 base is 95 last year with similar bonus... pretty sure it must be lower
Figures for sure are off. They also have a ton of extra layers like junior analyst, analyst, senior analyst, then finally associate so comp to YOE mismatch is probably significant.
