They pitched my firm and a couple allocators that I know. Really weird vibe, team clearly thinks too much of themselves and just came off as arrogant (and when NDA negotiations for fund investments are that hairy early on, never a good sign - trust me your shit probably isn't that proprietary). Also the founder's story as to why he had to leave his prior firm that he founded was a bit odd.
This is extremely helpful. Did ur allocator frds have the same instinct? How bad was their NDA and what was his story for leaving victory hill?
Yeah initially got intro'd by one of my allocator friends who wanted a second read on them, since they had the same initial perception but the team as you said does have the credibility and track record on paper. NDA was ridiculously broad, don't want to disclose too much detail otherwise.
And then just the guy was co-founder and CEO at Victory Hill but said he couldn't do what he wants to do at Tower Peak within Victory Hill (which really isn't that different), and then not a single person came w/ him from Victory Hill? Just doesn't quite check out and something must have happened there for him to leave just a few years after. Also so many people with CIO titles is just odd.
Had somebody else on the team join the meeting and they felt the same - very full of themselves.
