Transition from Quant to PE/IB : Seeking some evaluation
I am a Credit Quant. Pretty successful in what I do. I work for a top 5 US bank (in Retail). I am 28 years old, manage a team of 9+ quants (as SVP) and build portfolio performance models for different credit portfolio across two continents and nine countries. Life is comfortable (9-5) but not exciting. I am preparing to get into H/W/S. Considering probability and top 10 admission consultant feedbacks, I will get into at least one. (NYU Financial Engineering GPA 3.8, Diversity, Lots of leadership, 740ish).
9/10 in Excel VBA (Years exp) creating quant models, cash flow models and visualization dashboards.

Target and Rationale
My end goal is to break into Funds of Funds / Mega Funds/ Sovereign Funds. I am good at what I currently do but am bored. Investment excites me, huge potential in my Home Country for me later on (10 - 15 yrs) but I absolutely need deal experience and exposure.
I don't want to get into a quant fund. Absolutely Not. Tired of this.
Question
1. Am I too old / too irrelevant for PE or HF?
2.IB is another option. Probably I would have a better shot at this post MBA. What groups are best to be in? Comments?
3. What type of funds should I target? Is my hope of transiting to Sovereign Fund or Mega Funds justified?
