Turning networking calls into internships

Hi monkeys,
A little bit of background about me, I’m a stem major at a target school, incoming sa at a bb. After my internship, I have one semester left in my degree so I’m planning on interning at a boutique/mm project finance firm (infra/renewable funds) in fall 2027 and have been networking with alum at these firms.

Does anyone have advice on asking about internships, especially with firms that don’t have a formal recruitment process (for an off season internship)? The coffee chats are going well I’m just not sure how to turn a connection into an internship if the firm doesn’t have a formal recruitment program.

Any advice is appreciated.
