It's not all that different. I worked pretty long hours - even more than some buddies at MFs, as it's so deal dependent. If you go back to back committees, it's going to be painful no matter what. You might also have a better experience at UMM if the teams are leaner. There are more 5-person deal teams at MFs, but again this is case by case. 

Overall, my anecdotal evidence is that deal experience is approximately equivalent, compensation is in-line with MFs (ex. H&F + Apollo) if not higher, exit-opps might be less guaranteed but doable (I'm off to HBS for example, but in my MBA class there are X number every year from H&F and I'm the only one from my firm)
