Underdog Finance Figures?

I’m a big sports guy. And I love this sport underdog stories, stories like MJ not making varsity in high school and moving on to become the GOAT (arguably I love my glorious king lebron), or TB being a super late pick with a ton of criticism on his ability early in his career, etc. if you’re anything like me these stories are pretty motivating, however, I was wondering if anyone has any of these examples in the financial industry? Maybe they’re just not famous. But it just seems whenever you hear about a prominent financial figure, they’re usually from a really great pedigree background (Ivy league, etc.) and what’s implied is they’re some kind of natural genius. As someone who is passionate about their job and hopes to go as far as I can, I find it hard to relate to the Bill Ackmans or the Ray Dalios, etc. I’m a state school kid with very average intelligence but with a desire to really understand my trade and be successful. Does anyone here relate to this at all?
