Utah Buyside Opportunities

Curious what potential exits in Utah may look like as someone who is non-LDS. Would be coming from NY.

I don't drink, want to have a family by 25, going to get married early, etc. love the outdoors. feel like culturally, it is a much better fit than ny long term.

however, I've heard that progression can be very difficult unless you are Mormon. Some of the threads discussing SLC are 4-5 years old, and im curious to see if the scene has evolved.

Tower Arch is one, but they are strictly 2-and-out. Know on the private side there is Sorenson and Peterson, but those two have struggled with fundraising/seems like some of the early momentum is gone, so would say progression there is difficult even if you were Mormon. Don’t know the VC/public space as well there. The market overall is pretty small.

They don’t do any direct promotes. They force you to leave after 2-3 years as an associate. You have to leave for a couple years and then you can maybe come back as a VP. So some people go to b-school, or a different fund. They’re effectively extending their optionality with you by not making a decision while you’re there working for them.

It’s not a sweatshop by any means. I’ve heard the culture is great and the hours are very reasonable. Pay is low but it’s also Utah so cost of living is lower than NYC.
