Value of international MFPE

If I am a US citizen working NYC IB, would working in APAC PE for a few years post-IB hurt me when trying to move back to US? How receptive are US firms of international MFPE experience? Would there be a downgrade in position when trying to come back?

my bb has an APAC “study abroad exchange program” type thing in some groups. They highly encourage it for folks who want to be execs one day. I think the way to go is to go nyc at a megafund for a year or two and then gauge your interest in building out a growing apac niche for a few years (look at what dan dees did with TSMC). That way you’re entrenched at the firm and can add more value wherever you go. Obviously PE is a bit different than IB but this should give an idea of how you can accomplish both
