VC to PE?

Hey all,

I recently started in deep tech VC and while I do enjoy it a lot, I feel like I am not being challenged enough. We look at fairly complex businesses and financial situations, but only get so much involvement due to our inevitable positioning on the cap stack and involvement from larger, more sophisticated funds. I did do IB for a short period of time, and while I did not enjoy the culture and peripherals of it, I did enjoy the actual financial work. My question is: Is there clear path to transition from VC to PE even if my modelling skills are admittedly not as strong as my peers who completed a full two years in banking? I am not aiming for an MF, but rather a smaller firm that operates in the areas I am most interested. I appreciate any input / anecdotes in advance.

M
