Views on upward lateraling

Hey all, wanted to get your views on taking a lateral offer a year into current PE seat.

My background: was in MBB consulting for a year (did my internship there too) after school, moved to BB banking for a year, then lucked out on off cycle for a MM PE fund that required me moving cities.

Fast forward to almost year into that current seat, I opportunistically got contacted by a VP at one of the funds I was recruiting for (same industry and same strategy but upmarket) when I was in banking. We hit it off back then but it was a competitive process and I didn’t get an offer. They were hiring for a few lateral seats and I just kind of did the interview to see what comes out of it - it s huge bonus that it’s back to the city where I was prior.

Is it a big deal / bad look that I’m essentially switching into a 4th job after 3 years? Each have been at least a year stint and a career upgrade but I’m worried at how it may look like on my resume.

If I move, I plan to stay at this fund for two years then potentially business school. Currently hate the city I’m in but I really like the strategy. Curious to hear your views on if I should just stick it out at my current fund or take the opportunity.

Do you want to do it? Does it maximize for your next best year? If so just do it. This is in a way an industry where you are better off maximizing for one year at a time as a junior. Go. Particularly if the money is better and you aren’t wanting to go get an MBA
