What does it take to get to a Private Debt Fund, HY, Distressed?

I have an offer at a small bank $1B as a commercial credit analyst.

Mainly underwriting and analyzing RE deals ranging from $1mm to $30mm

Where can I go from here to ultimately get to a private debt fund?

I have interest in distressed debt. My other option is Corp fin at F500 (FP&A).

What is the compensation like at a distressed debt fund?
