What PE exits exist at 1 and 2 year associate at UMM/MM firm?

Hi all,

Just got offer to join in 2027 a UMM/MM firm from a consulting gig. Very interested in trying PE of course but not 100% sure it’s my “life path.”  The reason I am taking it is because I am simultaneously confident that consulting is not that either. I’ve heard differing opinions on the exit ops of PE at the 1-2 associate mark. Some say you solo yourself into only moving downward in PE while others say the exit ops are essentially equivalent to consulting with a slightly more limited scope but usually translating to higher pay. What is actually true?

Please let me know & thanks all
