What research to do for post-MBB PE?

I am going to be starting at MBB in the fall. I am thinking of doing PE post-MBB but am not 100% set on it. I am currently at a target school and have taken a few VC/PE classes with one professor. He is the head of the PE/VC program here. I need another few credits to graduate and decided to do research with this professor instead of some random bs class. I have a meeting with him for next week to talk about what I am going to be doing and was hoping for some WSO input. What topic should I try and look at to give the most relevance for placing into PE? Presence of emerging markets in PE? The effect of low interest rates? The incentives of LPs?

I am pretty open to everything, and he may have something already in mind but I'd appreciate input from any current PE guys.

i don't think the research you do now will have a meaningful impact on the job opportunities available to you after doing a few years in consulting per se.

Any of the topics you have identified however, could make you a more intelligent conversationalist when it comes to private equity. but again, not necessarily more so than if you stayed informed during the next two years, and certainly as not as interesting as deal experience or investment acumen

my 2 cents.

You could do some research about the strengths and weaknesses of various valuation methodologies with respect to companies (1) in certain industries (2) at certain stages of growth... this could help you get a lot of practice working on valuation and then you'd have a ton of technical knowledge to bust out at interviews. When someone asked you "why might you use ___ valuation method in this instance" you could be like... "funny you should ask, I actually wrote a 50 PAGE PAPER on that". I think that would go over well.
