What’s next?

Team,

I am in a bit of a pickle and could use some good advice. For context, I am a first year PE associate at a MF (KKR/BX/Veritas) and came from a top bank (GS/MS/Citi/RBC) after graduating from a top target (HYPS). After 6 months on the desk and next to best in class feedback, I am starting to think about what comes next. My firm doesn’t really promote people without business school and to be honest I don’t even know if I want to stay in PE. Opportunities that I’ve come across that I would appreciate help choosing between: HF, First time PE fund, or Entrepreneurship (contingent on being admitted to a top incubator)

Thoughts?

I personally think many posters on here are overrating how much IB --> PE helps in becoming an entrepeneur outside of maybe a higher chance to be accepted at incubators. If you want to go that route, find opportunities at ocmpanies in an industry that you're interested in starting a business.

I've interviewed with a YC founder before with this background and it was clear the guy had no idea what he was doing vs. other founders with more operational backgrounds.

i agree that the practical day to day responsibilities are not particularly valuable but the ability to build a safety net of savings very quickly and the slightly helpful branding is somewhat helpful for fundraising and getting people to answer your call. undoubtedly the best preparation for enterpreneurship is to just go do it but most people (myself included) don't have the risk tolerance to make that kind of bet
