Whitehorse Liquidity Partners / Dawson Partners
Hi,
I have an interview for a mid level (Ass) capital raising/IR (mostly institutional capital raising) position at the fund mentioned in the title (Toronto Office).
I’m looking for insights into the culture, comp, hours, responsibilities and career growth opportunities.
The fund changed its name and historically had a poor reputation on the street, but for Canada was considered top.
The pay for the role is 150 base + 100% target bonus, going up to 400 all-in as Sr. Ass. Hours I was told to expect are 9am - 10pm Mon-Fri with chill weekends.
is this number of hours ridiculous for a capital raising role or reasonable?
Is the comp solid for Canada? Or should I ignore the role and try to recruit for PC in NYC and push for sponsorship there even though it might require more work to initially break in?
I have always been stronger on the interpersonal side than the analytical/attention to detail side but enjoy both aspects and like to learn and grow professionally. i’m looking for good mentorship and good career growth opportunities first and foremost.
Eventually I’d like to work in NYC (via TN Visa or H1B sponsorship if possible). This role came to me, so it’s outside what I would have normally been considering.
Also - while fund 1 did not deliver good returns and carry was eliminated, the company has been raising funds 5, 6, and 7 and is apparantly oversubscribed on all of them, with plans for more growth - is the negative past of the firm behind them? Or is this still a place to avoid working at?
.
Interesting, did not expect dawson to hold this kind of weight in NYC/Wall Street... Genuinely curious what made you think that.
oh trust they do
.
Ha bet a recruiter reached out to you as well? Spoken to people that have worked there and the culture is still trash. Apparently lots of politics and backstabbing. Would do a lot of diligence before accepting an offer.
There is a good reason why they changed their company name, I mean they literally had one of the most infamous threads on WSO. People I spoke to told me they pay a lot because it is the only way to get talent in the door. Politics means you could get a very low bonus randomly.
Any idea what Associates on the investment team make?
I was told it was because they couldn’t secure the naming rights to Whitehorse for the UK / Europe, and it’s a big part of their expansion strategy. I am sure the bad press didn’t help
Yeah no Dawson fan but this is why
