Depends on the sector, but off the top of my head some venture debt names are SVB, Hercules, Oxford, Bridge Bank, East West, Horizon, Midcap, K2, Signature, Solar, Square 1
I've never really understood this space. For this risk profile, why would I want to cap my upside?
Everything has a price. Shitty assets at the right price can still be great investments
Fair point, but don’t you think that is somewhat mitigated with the prevalence of convertible debt structures?
Still not really worth it IMHO.
Eh I think it is. You're downside protected to a degree and you get to participate in the upside. If I were an outside investor in such a fund, I'd likely find that risk profile interestingly hedged. Obviously the big question is what kind of recourse a lender can get in this type of investment in the event of a liquidation - and to be clear, I don't know the answer here. But I definitely think it's an enticing way to approaching early-stage investing
