Why is The Carlyle Group so different?

It seems to be the most different of the Large funds. It's bigger, diversified into different sectors and geographies, has a HUGE number of analysts and associates with a variety of backgrounds.

Is Carlyle known to be a different experience than TPG, BX, KKR, BainCap etc.?

One of the main reasons for such a large staff is that the firm likes to keep things which would normally be outsourced by other PE firms in-house, e.g. accounting, back office, etc. The firm is also big on local knowledge and presence, and you're right the diversity at the firm is phenomenal. I have no idea how "the experience" for junior people would compare to the other firms you mention, perhaps others can weigh in here.
