Would this be a good reason to start looking for another role?

I work in PC; could not find a better forum.

So I joined this fund 9 months ago as an AN2. The fund is great however while comp is right on market up to Associate, it becomes well below at VP and beyond.

My perfomance so far has been great, and my directors have put me forward promotion to Associate, skipping the AN3 bucket. Now, while the firm is doing okay, and my division is doing well, I am somewhat skeptical I will get the promotion I want just given the firm tightness with comp, general economic/financial environment and the fact that the process is taking longer than usual (at least so I am told.)

So in my head, I started to think that if I do not get the associate position, which I know I deserve and already act like it, I would try to switch shops and get the title that way, since I know that my career here won't be very long given the above comp consideration.

Given I haven't been here very long, what are your thoughts?
