Starting off in AM / shifting to Development

I searched through WSO and found a few posts regarding AM to acquisitions moves (though not with much color).
However, I am curious about moving between asset management and development. (There is next to nothing about this job hop, so please indulge me).

For the sake of this discussion, let’s say the AM function is fairly comprehensive. It works closely with Dev on vetting new projects, lease-ups, operating, and hold/sell analysis.

1. Is it unusual to start out in AM and slide over to development? Is AM experience directly applicable or just “nice to have?”

2. Does shifting from AM to Development (internally/externally) typically mean resetting on title and starting at the bottom, or does the knowledge/skillset largely carry over?

3. What advice would you give to an asset manager (working for a developer) about how to stand out as someone who would be invaluable on the development side, make the ask to move over to the bosses, and ultimately succeed in the role?
