Apartment Operators: Do You See Kickbacks?
Niche question for multifamily specialists - from your perspective, how common are kickbacks from Vendors?
Put another way, if a Vendor was trying to sell a service to a Property, is there a history of the Vendor offering the Property Manager cash (under the table) for the Property to try out the service?
This is a difficult question because I expect most of the people on this forum are NOT from boots-on-the-ground management background, but rather Asset Managers. As such, I doubt Property Managers have any interest in discussing it, even if it did occur.
Asking for a friend.
We would shit-can someone the second we found out about something like this. It probably happens, but said person runs a big risk if that is ever discovered; the vendor would also be a persona non grata with the entire company. Source: large MF owner operator (50k+ units under management).
That's pretty much what I thought. I expect it happens too but would pissed if our PM did it.
