Are REITs a good start to a RE career?

As the summer wraps up I’ve started recruiting for summer analyst opportunities for next year (rising junior - finance). I’ve started learning and exploring more about various REITs and I was wondering if anyone had advice of whether or not they were a good start for a RE career (analyst role). Also curious about comp and exit opportunities. Thanks.
