Ares Management - Real Estate Equity

Saw a job posting for an analyst on their Ares Real Estate Equity Team. Anyone have any info on the team, culture, or what types of people they are targeting?

The job posting makes it seem like they want someone with a lot of asset level experience (Argus experience, market underwriting, property due diligence...etc) but upon searching LinkedIn it seems like they primarily hire former bankers. Anyone have insight into that?

I met with a member of the REPE team at Ares last week. I didn't talk to him too much about the specifics of the culture of Ares, but he had nothing but good things to say about the company and his worked seemed very interesting. He was an analyst at DB before moving to the buy side and said they mostly recruit from investment banking, so I don't think too many people start their career there.

I don't think it'd be impossible. He said they recruit a lot from banks but I don't think that means that someone with a non banking real estate background would be disqualified. He told me that one of the nice things about real estate is that theres more than one way to get into the game (development, capital markets at CBRE/JLL/HFF etc)
