Associate at MF; how do you justify making significantly less than top resy MLO's?
Top percentile resy MLO's pull in multi million dollars a year and albeit being a slave to their phone and deals, have discretion over their own schedules. The work seems far easier than the work I (investment professionals) do, and I would imagine putting in similar hours in a sales function would result in success.
I'm an associate at a top MF and am increasingly becoming interested in the field.
Any thoughts?
They’re different works with different risk appetites. A mid bucket MF Associate likely isn’t able to become a top resi broker easily. It’s just a different career path and the comp trajectory is arguably ‘easier’ for buyside investment professionals
You convince yourself you'll get carry, and that money will solve your problems, while you cry as your personal relationships break down around you as you chase the money
How is it even a related career path? May as well bemoan how much MLB players or instagram influencers make.
They are both real estate finance roles. As much as one is more sales oriented than the other is analytical.
What’s an MLO
Mortgage Loan Officer
What is a top resy MLO?
residential mortgage originator
Risk.
If you are at the top of selling literally anything, you will make more money than an associate at an mf.
It’s probably harder to be a top 1% MLO then associate at a MF
