Balancing Personal Travel with Career

Hi all,

I'm looking for some general career/life advice. This is sort of a threefold-fold question. I'll give you a bit of background first. Just graduated with a B.A. from a good Canadian school and I've got a summer gig at a reputable boutique development company that specializes in student housing. I'm working with the VP of development and the job is very operations focused. I enjoy it a lot. I am interested in pretty much every facet of real estate. I used to work at a residential brokerage before. I've learned some ARGUS and I'm playing catch up on modeling and financial concepts. I've got a good network from university and high school and I've already done a fair bit of networking. So, the questions:

1) When this summer position is done, I would like to travel, but for long can I travel before employers may start to view it negatively (1,2,3,4 months)? Or does it not matter? I don't want to jump into a full time job without temporarily squashing the travel bug.

2) Job-wise, what do I do after my summer gig? Do I try to arrange a job before the summer ends and I leave to travel, or do I do it upon my return? Obviously I'd like to have something arranged beforehand, but it doesn't sound realistic.

3) What sort of jobs should I pursue given my experience? I know there isn't a straightforward answer to this, but anything helps.

Appreciate any advice/comments.
