Best culture and work/life in REPE / REIT in New York and California?

1st year Associate at top CRE brokerage firm here. Looking to make the big move to New York or California and work for a top REPE (Real Estate Private Equity) or REIT , but definitely want to be in a place with positive culture and reasonable work-life balance. I have heard Blackrock is a good example of both. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Agreed. Grew up in CA and love LA and have given NY a honest chance twice now and couldn’t really find the same soft spot for it as I have for LA

I personally love both LA and NYC and could live in both (and have lived in one). I have many friends who have lived in both and have enjoyed both. In my opinion, they are the two main big cities in the US (I don't consider Chicago, SF, Houston, Miami, etc to be in the same tier), so someone that just likes being at one of the poles/centers of energy in the US will enjoy both. At many points in my life I would have happily accepted the best opportunity so long as it was in one of these two cities and would have been happy in both, so I think it's a fair question.

This x100. Most people like one or the other but rarely both

Likewise, it's a rare person who is going to have deep insights into the culture of both NYC and "California" (LA? SF? OC?) firms
