Does anyone have any insight into the Chicago-based REPE firm CA Ventures? Culture, comp, growth opps, etc.
Seems like they have grown a ton over the last couple years and are big in SH. Any insight at all would be appreciated!

We bought a couple of student housing deals from them in 2013 and I can tell you that they walked away with a boat load of cash (~$50m basis and liquidated at over $100m). It looks like they have since expanded in hospitality, office, conventional MF, and senior housing although the majority of their deal flow is still student housing. This sector has gotten extremely crowded and its difficult to find yield as a sponsor given that enrollment growth is staggering, tuition costs have gotten out of control, and there are only so many decent SH sites in these college towns. Most developers I know have given up on the value creation prospect and are focused on fees, which speaks to the sad but inevitable evolution of the real estate game. I cant speak to the culture but by looking at their website they have certainly hired a bunch high profile, experienced folks to execute each strategy. If your younger, it could be a decent place to get experience across multiple asset types. Wish I could be more helpful.

I don't know much more more than they opened operations in Europe in July and have already acquired 9-10 sites in UK / Ireland and Netherlands. Looks like they have taken an aggressive stance on Europe.
Growing very quickly. The very quick growth can be viewed as a positive, but growing very quickly at the end of the cycle can be a dangerous game. Positive things to say about them. It's just timing could be punitive to returns.
I've worked on a few deals with them over the past several years. As other users have mentioned they have grown significantly in terms of size and scope. They have brand name LP capital as partners on their various platforms, and their deal volume is incredible. I think they have grown too fast and there will soon be some growing pains, but I can't argue with the type of people they have hired as the company has grown.
Overall it would be an incredible place to get some experience early in your career. The firm is a rising star in the industry and the variety of projects they work on is staggering.
According to a recent job req. they just started an industrial team. Kind of interesting.
I think culture is pretty good/chill. I had a friend intern there two summers ago and every Friday they had catered lunch, keg in the office, and people left at like 2pm. Viewed as a strong client/sponsor at the bank I work at.
We've done a lot of student housing deals with them as a seller/buyer. They seem to always be a part of high quality product and solid returns
