Carried interest in acquisitions vs AM
Hi folks, I am aware this has been discussed a few times before, but I was unable to find a definitive answer. How does carried interest allocation in AM compare to acquisitions at Tier 1 funds? I suppose the pool might be the same but the basis points allocated might be lower, but how much lower? Would appreciate any insights - thanks
Depends on shop - at higher levels AM should be getting an equivalent allocation to acquisitions guys (I'd argue it should be higher since they're the ones that actually deliver results), but from what I've seen you generally don't get to participate until you're more advanced in an organization.
The carried interest split is typically no different from an acquisitions person versus an am person. Both jobs are equally as valuable at a high level.
Ours is equal between originations and AM (I'm at an opportunistic debt shop) for the same title.
