Clarion Partners (ING Clarion)

Hey Everyone,

Does anyone know anything about this real estate fund? Assuming you can get an entry level position right out of college, is this something to look at ? There doesn't seem to be that much information on them in terms of reputation, rankings, and atmosphere on these forums. Additionally- what type of company would you consider this? I believe its an investment management firm. Is that simply a reit, real estate hedge fund, REPE firm? Any help would be great. Thanks

Definitely something to look at. Yeah, I think "investment manager" is fair. Institutional investor, whatever you want to call them. They have a number of different platforms, but they I'm pretty sure they do some opportunistic/REPE investing.

Thanks a lot. I'm going to look into it more. Just to get a sense of the place, would I be crazy to turn this down (assuming I got a position) for a real estate ib position at a less prestigious bank like duff and phelps or no? Thanks again.

Maybe you were just using Duff & Phelps as an example, but according to their website they don't do real estate IB. They cover:
Consumer, Retail, Food and Restaurants Energy and Mining Healthcare and Life Sciences Industrials Technology and Telecom Now I did have a friend of a friend who worked at Duff & Phelps doing real estate of some sort, but he was not in investment banking. I'm not even sure what he did. I would definitely NOT turn down acquisitions at Clarion Partners for his job.

But would I turn down acquisitions at Clarion Partners to work in this group http://www.fbr.com/en/Expertise/RealEstate.aspx (let's describe FBR as a less prestigious bank here)? Yes.

Ya- I was just using them as an example. I meant any real estate ib analyst position. But from what you said, I'm starting to get the picture. Thanks a lot for the input and help.

massive investment manager with one of the largest (if not the largest) industrial core funds out there. They provide a lot of development capital for industrial development and partner with best in class sponsors. Aside from that, the folks I have met there are all friendly and sharp. Their big offices are NYC and LA. I'm pretty sure they have separate accounts for different strategies as well (not just industrial) but that's all I know right now.
