CMBS Agency Analyst

After two years trying to land a role in commercial real estate after college, this week I ended up landing two offers, and third offer was deferred till 2023 due to market conditions. I plan on accepting a capital markets analyst where I’ll be working in Agency CMBS trading. Does anyone have any experience in this world and can touch on resources/ skills to review and develop for this role.

I’m super excited; this is a real dream come true!

Don’t know if I should throw this in the trading forum.

I work in this field now. Understand the deals themselves and Financial modelling skills. Don't be scared to have a calculator at all times.

I didn't really know anything with regards to Agency Lending coming in about a year ago, find a person that will teach you the ropes. Seems like a very small network and most people have worked with one another.

DM me if you have any questions. Depends a lot on what shop you are going to and if you are on the lending side or book buying side or even the end account side.

Currently interviewing for a CMBS b-piece acqusitions role and curious what kind of case study to expect? I'm currently a REPE acqusitions analyst and comfortable with my equity modelling but wondering if I should expect a more debt/loan modelling focused case study? Any resources that you recommend for getting up to speed on b-piece acqusitions and modelling?

Many thanks in advance and happy holidays.

Sounds great, I'm curious why you are transitioning out of REPE. Honestly I'm not sure. My "test" was an excel test that was fairly straightforward. It asked a lot of different things from basic to semi advanced property underwriting but also asked property underwriting questions and some bond questions like coupon vs note, pass thru definition etc… I also had to write a paper on macro economics today
