Could anyone share their experience working with a small debt fund or investment shop?

I am currently working on the BS lending side, with the goal of eventually (like a lot of others) making the jump to acquisitions/development. I have had a few interviews with very small debt funds/development shops (<1.5-2B AUM, 15 or less employees) and just wanted to see if anyone would have hesitation moving from a large bank/lender to one of these smaller shops. Its hard to find much information on deals more recent than a couple of years ago, which I'm wondering whether or not it is par for the course for a small shop working on a few development/reposition deals.
