Debt Brokerage - Is It A Dead End?

Is debt brokerage a dead end into only being on the debt side of the business for the rest of your career? And if so, does it have good enough upside as opposed to going into capital markets/leasing brokerage or even to the principal side? Someone give it to me straight, because I have heard so many different spins on it.

This topic has occurred before but in short to answer you question, debt brokerage is not dead-end. There are plenty of opportunities to become a rockstar broker. I'd say there's even more opportunity than leasing brokers but there are definitely some superstar leasing brokers as well just not as many compared to the debt side. You can even make it to the principal side in the future strictly just working on obtaining debt for the various deals, but if you're that good, you're often better staying on the brokerage side working with multiple clients.

If principal side if really more of your goal, hanging out in debt brokerage for too long is not always ideal, you definitely want to move around in your analyst and associate years.
