Exit Opportunities From Boutique IS Brokerage

I am essentially looking at exit ops from my boutique investment sales brokerage of which I have been in just south of a year. I have two years of residential experience previous to this in mortgages. I have an idea of what I think I could look into but am curious to see what you all think. I want to foreshadow my lack of ARGUS experience as we didn't see the use in our platform but do usually deal with excel in a very basic level. I am thinking an analyst position but wonder what you all think provided my restrictions listed above. I am realizing that I hate the whole sales aspect and dealing with the tedious parts of getting to the sale.

I also am curious as to how to approach entry into another company, it seems the further away I get from school the harder it is to figure out where/how to apply to companies. Some form of cold emailing would seem to me to be a logical step, I would need like a list of companies to run down and see where I think I would fit, if someone has a website for this or a strategy that would be helpful.

Any advice helps.

If you think that the broker/sales side of the business is 'tedious', then I don't think you're going to like the principal/ownership side. What do you actually want to do? What made you jump from resi to CRE?

I suppose I am confused by your comment, I am not sure what you mean by principal/ownership as I have not referenced this in my possibilities? Resi was simply not stimulating enough for me (My previous job was in resi mortgages, to clarify), I am finding brokerage on CRE to be arguably worse or on the same footing. While my current senior broker is intelligent and I am learning a little it appears to me that I am just not in a position that will allow me to display my talents if that makes sense. I would like something that will stimulate me as well as provide me with something that I view as a "future" career. I enjoy commercial real estate I just don't enjoy the cold calling/days of doing almost nothing that come with being in brokerage. I know plenty of people that thrive in broker roles and that's great, but I am someone that needs with a little direction until I know fully what I am doing. I view an analyst position as something that would allow me to have a little direction as well as learn the real estate game a little better.

Additionally the biggest reason for the jump initially was a combination of being interested in the complexities of the commercial real estate compared to resi and a need for something more in my job.

My point is that you referenced the fact that you don't like the 'tediousness' of the brokerage side, which I inferred to mean repetitive things like reading leases, combing through financial data, etc. If that is the case, then an analytical role, whether on the brokerage/sell side or the principal side, is going to be even more tedious.

I see, well the tediousness that I was referencing was more of spending hours looking up peoples names only for the phone numbers not to work, dealing with poor trainers (I understand this is dependent on where you are), having absolutely nothing to do other than call unless you have a deal going. I know the game works as “you have to want it” which is true but I am definitely someone who thrives with more direction, brokerage does not provide this. I don’t mind reading leases as most are cookie cutter with the exception of certain parts. I also don’t mind learning more of the nuisances of excel, and reading financial information some of that is boring yes, but is necessary to get to where I would like to be. Not to mention I cannot relate in almost anyway to my manager, the man has no sense of humor.

Brokerage is a different type of tediousness than what I can endure, if I felt like I was progressing in a way that would put me in a good situation then I might be able to overlook it all.
