EY Transaction Real Estate

Does anyone have any insight into EY's transaction real estate group? I know it is part of their transaction advisory services business line but trying to figure out what their focus is. Is it glorified appraisal work and fair value consulting or do they actually consult on live deals (IE due diligence, modeling, capital markets).

I would check out this thread: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/real-estate-transaction-teams-at-….

I interned with one of these groups over the summer, so I cannot speak for exit opps. I also can't say that i thought it was totally worthwhile. Didn't experience much of a transactional or deal making aspect to the work. Exposure to clients is also fairly limited given that in most cases your "client" is an audit team who has a client with real estate assets that you are taking a look at on their behalf. All this being said, i think EY has the biggest real estate practice of the big 4 in the US, so your experience with them could be better.

It's not bad experience, but I really don't know anyone in acquisitions with that type of background. Depends on your goals I guess.

Please don't quote Patrick Bateman.

You'll get more exposure at a traditional brokerage shop than EY.

This may be true - though the EY brand can be valuable (more recognizable than your run of the mill brokerage firm....obviously discounting your CBREs, Cushman Wakefields, etc...

A good friend of mine worked in TRE (EY'ers say "tree") and after two years left to do re investments at a very large hedge fund. Worked out well for him.

All very helpful. I worked at a top 3 brokerage in investment sales before going back to graduate school. From the interview process, seemed liked this position would be more leverageable than an Argus jockey at a brokerage firm. Just worried about being pigeonholed.

Hey GratefulEd, I'm the WSO Monkey Bot and I'm here since nobody responded to your thread! Bummer...could just be time of day or unlucky (or the question/topci is too vague or too specific). Maybe one of these topics will help:

More suggestions...

Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
