Finally Landed a Role!!!!
Just wanted to share this with you all since you have been a huge resource and as inspiration to those looking.
After starting to seriously apply in February, I have finally landed a role as an analyst at a local brokerage.
For context, I have 0 years of experience in CRE and am currently a client service associate at a financial advising firm…aka not much experience to directly translate.
What I did do was network a TON. Connect with any local CRE leader that will accept your invite on LinkedIn and ask them all to coffee/lunch to share any advice they have for you. 60-70% of them will not respond but that is ok. The ones that do are usually very genuinely nice and want to see young people succeed. Ask everyone you meet with if they would be willing to connect you with someone in the industry who they think would be a good person to talk with (This part really helps build great connections).
I also took the real estate financial modeling boot camp by Justin Kivel of Break in to CRE and put it on my resume. I started to receive a lot more serious responses to my application after I had completed that.
Lastly don’t give up! I know the job market right now is awful but there are opportunities out there.
Use this platform as a resource as well for questions you have!
Best of luck monkeys.
Huge congratulations on your offer!
good stuff man!! what type of role?
Financial Analyst is the title. I know I’ll be underwriting a lot of leases as well as some acquisitions/dispositions and a little bit of development.
Great to hear, best of luck.
Awesome, this gives me hope! I'm in Residential RE with no CRE exp, doing the same course right now in hope of landing a role soon. So far I've learned a lot from it, but I had to look up a lot of the stuff on my own to get a solid understanding. Appreciate your post!
That is awesome man! I had to look a lot of stuff up as well. Just keep at it and network with local people in the CRE industry. You can do it.
Whats your current role in resi? What are your targeting in CRE?
Experience was specifically in home equity investment. I started in underwriting and moved onto valuations (total ~3 yrs exp), I did get exposure to fin modeling, loan/option sizing there but it's a bit different than what's required in CRE. Hence going thru some certs to help bridge that gap. I'm looking at Analyst roles basically, those seem the best fit for me and also where I can provide value. I have a BA in mathematics.
Good shit. Congratulations.
Congrats! Run with this opportunity and do big things!!
Nice job man.
