Finding time to interview 7-8 with 1.5 hour commute
Hey guys, basically the title. How would I find time to interview if I commute 1.5 hours each way and work is usually 7-7, 7-8pm and were expected in the office everyday. Going on a doctors appointment is not realistic and I really don't dress up everyday/can't just bring a jacket into the office because it's a small office.
Based on this are my only options saying hey this is my schedule could you do an 8/8:30pm interview and I leave a little early that day to make it back to my apartment or just say this is my schedule with my commute can you do weekends? Again taking time to go to the doctors/etc would not be an option and it's expected you're in the office and if you need to leave you take one of out less than a week of sick days with prior approval.
If you are really interested in the job you just take PTO for a day.
I really can't it has to be approved and it has to be a good amount of time in advance.
If you really want the job, schedule the PTO day a week in advance and then schedule the interview the same day.
There is a very little chance that a firm will do an analyst interview at 8pm or on a weekend.
I used to do this when I was commuting into NYC and wearing a suit on a random day would be awkward. I would drive in the day of an interview and park in a garage. Schedule my interview towards lunch time and quickly go to my car and change. I would wear the dress pants and shirt needed so going to car to throw on a jacket and tie was easy. I still remember one day I was turning the corner and saw a couple guys in my office from a distance so I had to jet the other way so they wouldn’t see me suited up lol.
Thanks appreciate the advice, I'm assuming this can be applied to public transportation too? I don't drive usually train/bus but can probably put the suit and tie in a bag and bring it in.
I would talk to the company you’re interviewing with and tell them the situation. They should be understanding. If it’s a zoom interview and be willing to work with you. If they aren’t, it’s prob not a place you want to be.
