Firms that take sophomore interns

Hey everyone,

I'm a sophomore at a very good undergrad program looking to go into real estate investing. Recently started networking w/ alumni and it has been going pretty well, yet I still struggle to find firms that would consider a sophomore for their internship programs.

Does anyone have advice on specific companies/groups to target (from REPE to banks and brokers, anything valuable) that would be open to consider someone younger and/or have good internship programs? That would help me better focus my networking efforts.

Thanks guys!

You should just apply unless it specifically says juniors/seniors. A lot of firms are just looking for part-time/temp work from UG/grad students, they don't have a preset idea (not to say you will get the job vs. a junior/senior, but you never know).

That said, direct reach-out/networking is the best route. Just email/call enough firms, you will probably find someone/somewhere that wants you.

I'm a current undergrad and don't believe many firms like to recruit sophomore interns. One that comes to mind is PGIM's Sophomore Training Program, although its highly competitive. Definitely also network with the big brokerage firms (JLL,CBRE) and some of the top REPE funds like Starwood. I don't believe these three firms formally advertise internships for sophomores but have seen some students work for them during their second year of uni.

If you don't have any luck, try to find some advisor-type firms or finance oriented internships that don't directly invest in real estate. This would put you in a strong spot for junior year internships.

Since you're at a good undergrad program, I would recommend that you ask professors and your career center. A lot of times, there are good opportunities outside of online job postings, so that would be a good way to find out about them. Other than that, just reach out to firms around your area; worst case is they say they don't take sophomores but you still have a connection for junior summer.

I’m a fun guy. Obviously I love the game of basketball. I mean there’s more questions you have to ask me in order for me to tell you about myself. I'm not just gonna give you a whole spill... I mean, I don't even know where you're sitting at
