They’re one of the worst paying shops at their level. I wouldn’t be surprised if their all-in for first years was still under $100k even though most top firms pay that as salary alone.
Hate to throw shade but underpaying is one of the things that warrants shade being thrown.
Edit: whoops, didn’t realize you were talking about associate comp - probably not higher than $200k all-in.
^This. Believe all in for first years hits 100k but barely, and analysts are working 60+ hour weeks. Abysmal comp for industry standards across the board in Chicago with the exception of Walton St and Blue Owl, have never understood why, ofc Chicago is a LCOL compared to NY or LA but the discount is greater than just differences in living costs.
