50 base plus a tiny cut of the commission of the closed deals that you’re the analyst on
JSmithRE2010, any idea on how much of commission on average? Considering it's a 1st year Analyst, fresh out of college.
This might depend on a lot of factors, but what's your best guess?
important to note. I've talked to some of the analysts there and it's a pretty good work/life balance from what i've gathered.
Huh? I have a friend who has been with HFF debt placement since August and he pulls multiple 12+ hour days weekly. This is in LA, so maybe their SE office is just more relaxed, but I would hardly call that a good work/life balance.
Echo above. HFF doesn't really have a reputation for "work/life" balance
Similar to the above, I know LA and OC analysts/associates working 60-90 hour weeks.
However, CBRE's production analysts I would say have a better work/life balance.

They typically close to double their $50K salary their first year if they are on a good team.
know a bunch of guys at HFF in a few major markets. anecdotal but one kid in year one has a base of 50k but is probably looking at 100% bonus. Works maybe 60-70 hrs. Shunning a job there because of a low base in year 1 is foolish. They get bonused/commissioned nicely if its an active office/group. And I'm sure that ramps up in years 2,3 etc . as you gain experience and add more value to deals. Great shop to cut your teeth at IMO. You can make a killing if you go the producer route and you'll get good looks from the principal side if that's what you are after.
Totally agree with you, pay is not priority, and I'm looking more long term. Just want to have a clear idea of the all-in comp for a 1st year analyst to prioritize expenses/ living situation.
Any idea on exactly "when" your friend began making commission? How fast did they put him to work on deals?

I’ve heard that if you’re a more senior analyst, with a few yrs of experience, and a go to analyst that’s popular with producers and known for getting shit done, you can pull in $125k - $200k all in....and that’s feedback I’ve heard for an office in a non-gateway market (ie, not SF, NYC or LA). Can anyone weigh in on if that’s accurate??
Yes, that's accurate. I know of a few lifetime analysts there making $200K easy. They are the middle aged ones who never want to go the producer route, but stay on with the group and can model anything and get any book put together quickly.
