How did you start generating business as a broker?

Have the opportunity to start at a brokerage where I will essentially be spoon fed deals at the beginning that I can run with and splitting fees with the broker who is giving me them, but with the expectations that I will also be looking to expand the client base and start to bring in deals after a year or so. The deal pipeline at the moment is too big they are turning away deals.

I am an entrepreneurial person, and I find this more intriguing than a draw schedule as I get the experience of working with clients right away and potentially gaining those clients as potential to bring in more in the future. As I would want to participate in the business development I was curious how people here started reaching out to groups to bring in deals? This is D/E broker, but I'd imagine creating your own deal pipeline is similar with IS and D/E with the differences being that D/E can bring in clients across a much wider geography.
