How hard is it to break into a REIT/REPE/ RE Development post MBA with little RE background?

I'm going to Cornell Johnson this fall and right now I'm leaning towards IB but I've always had an interest in real estate and I'm curious as to what the job opportunities are in RE. Also I can take a fair amount of classes from the hotel or real estate program at Cornell. How hard will it be to break into these real estate areas with little to none experience? Thanks

The Real Estate program at Cornell is pretty solid, I would imagine you wouldn't have too much difficulty breaking into RE if that's what you're interested in. Try to connect with your professors in real estate classes, most of them have some experience working in the industry or at least have lots of contacts in the field so if they like you they would be able to connect you.

You should avail yourself of the Hotel Mgmt school and take some courses in hotel investing if you want to add some depth to hospitality analysis. Hotels are probably the most ackward asset class of CRE given the large business component of the property.
