How to study for RE Investments Full-Time analyst job interviews

Background: Student at a target (Ivey/Qcomm), going into 4th year. This summer I'm working at a smaller PE firm and previously I worked in Corp Dev. I have always been interested in RE Investments and wanted to try and break in full-time as an analyst. I have a few questions:

1. Given my non RE background is this possible?

2. When do apps for RE investment analysts come out for companies like Oxford, OTTP, Brookfield

3. For IB and PE, you pretty much study the guides, are there similar resources I should start looking at for RE interview prep?

4. What technicals should I be studying

5. What are the top paying and most prestigous RE companies?

I appreciate the insight as always.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Given my non-RE background, is this possible?

    • Yes, it is possible to break into RE Investments with a non-RE background. Your experience in private equity and corporate development can be valuable, and you can leverage your skills and knowledge to transition into real estate investments.
  2. When do apps for RE investment analysts come out for companies like Oxford, OTTP, Brookfield?

    • The recruiting timeline for real estate investment analyst positions can vary. For example, IDS in LA recruits somewhat late (~December, January). It's advisable to keep an eye on the specific companies' career pages and networking events to stay updated on their application timelines.
  3. For IB and PE, you pretty much study the guides, are there similar resources I should start looking at for RE interview prep?

    • Yes, there are resources available for RE interview prep. You can look into financial modeling lessons and templates specifically tailored for real estate, such as those offered by Wall Street Oasis. These resources can help you get up to speed with the technical skills required for RE interviews.

    • For RE investment analyst roles, you should focus on:
      • Financial statement modeling
      • Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis
      • Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) modeling
      • Leveraged Buyout (LBO) modeling
      • Comparable company analysis (Comps)
      • Excel modeling skills
    • These technical skills are crucial for performing well in interviews and on the job.
  5. What are the top paying and most prestigious RE companies?

    • While the specific rankings can vary, some of the top paying and most prestigious real estate companies include:
      • Blackstone
      • Brookfield Asset Management
