Hurricanes and Real Estate Development
This is a serious question. Given the recent hurricane in Florida, I wanted to know what kind of opportunities are out there for developers after hurricanes. Do they actually look toward redeveloping an area quickly or what are some examples of this after previous hurricanes, etc
Commercial buildings have insurance and impact from hurricanes are usually minimal to commercial buildings
I could see buildings with co working space taking a hit to their incomes. Thats assuming they're running their own co working space and not wework or something like that.
Not really in the real estate business, so can't offer any answers on your question directly but I'd mention that ultimately, it really depends on the hurricane. Typically, if damage is mostly caused by wind, residential buildings are more heavily affected than commercial/industrial, but are rarely written off completely. If a hurricane was more of a flood event like Harvey or Katrina, I'd argue there's probably more opportunity for developers as flooded buildings would of likely suffered more structural damage.
