I Think My Career Is Over - CRE Job Market Discussion
Seven years of CRE experience here. Separated with my firm about a year ago because frankly, the role changed from acquisitions/diligence to fund accounting and fund model creation (somehow.)
Anyways, I am applying now with a year of unemployment on my resume. Getting absolutely nowhere, and now it seems even job postings have stopped showing up at all. My network has no leads, and even they are struggling.
To those of you with shitty jobs you hate: it's really really bad out there, hold on to what you've got. I think I have to call it a wraps on real estate finance, at least for some years.
Also, if anyone has any idea on career pivots, i'd appreciate any advice you may have. I really don't know what's next.
Start an LLC. Now you're an entrepreneur, not unemployed. You tried to do some consulting work or chase some deals, but the market is tough and you're looking for something more stable.
It's not a panacea, but it looks better than a gap.

agreed, say you are doing consulting work (friends/family/etc), or even potentially explore some avenues where your skills and knowledge will allow you to generate some sort of income

Def not just you I'm seeing a lot of extremely qualified people out of work right now keep your head up
I’m curious: is there a specific reason you left before securing another job? Did the company just suck or were you burned out?
I only ask because last year’s job market wasn’t a slam dunk and even if your day-to-day was changing, you still had the acquisitions/underwriting title and could of played off a slow time not doing deals easily while interviewing.

Stay strong brother many (myself in cluded) are in the same boat. I've been runner up 5 or so times in the past year and it hurts every time. Thought i would get desensitized to it but hasn't been the case. Even with a target school undergrad education and 2 years of IB experience it feels like I'm a leper.
I'm ex-IB as well.
I took a new role in December and it’s been ok. I am wondering if it makes sense at this point to just spend the next few years starting to pivot to something else though. This industry feels like it’s never really going to come back.
Im likely headed to healthcare at this point.
Just curious, what kind of healthcare roles would you consider? It’s a growing sector, one of the only ones…
