Interest reserve calc blowing up my models… fix?
I’ve used multiple different models and for some reason in the development model it keeps getting blown up (errors throughout the central cash flows) and I can’t ctrl +z and go back after it errors out. Almost certain this is because of the interest reserve and always happens when I adjust my project schedules.
Any development gurus know what I’m talking about and/or how to fix? This is killing me!!
I suspect there's a circular reference pointing back to the non-utilisation. Rebuild it with a manual circuit breaker or identify all circular references (trial and error) and just be careful.
You don't need to do the circuit breaker at every instance the interest reserve is used/linked to. There should just be one cell that calculates the reserve, that's the one cell that needs the breaker. Everything that is a descendent of that cell will be fine linked as usual.
I've dealt with circuit breakers before and an Associate had it in, but genuine question isn't the model too complex if you need one? The one I worked on had many sets of the same cash flows and was built off an existing base that was modified and added to over time. Seems like the model is too complex if you're having to dig through errors for 20 minutes to find the issue to fix (which I've done).
A circuit breaker just iterates your loan sizing manually instead of using circular references. It's not a complex feature nor does it make the model complex.
Break the circularity, then re introduce it one period at a time and it should work. If it doesnt then you know where the error is.
Size the interest reserve manually via goal seek. There will than be no circular references. Also check your operating deficit reserve.
Enable iterative calculation in excel. Sometimes this turns off for me and does this.
